There’s a lot of misinformation out there about Jews.
…Well, actually, “a lot” is quite an understatement. Jews are easily one of—if not the—most slandered, lied about, and unjustifiably vilified group of people in all of human history. We’re cast as all sorts of depressingly vile stereotypes, the quantity of which seems infinite. The appetite for the minting of new forms of bigotry against us feels insatiable.
I believe there is not much point in dwelling here on all the nasty things said about Jews. You’ve heard enough of that.
Our purpose here is pretty simple. It’s literally in our name—we want you to meet the Jews.
We want you to get to know us. We’re your neighbors, coworkers—and maybe, unbeknownst to you, even your friends and family. Some of us have done good things. Others have done not so great things. Many have done amazing things, and we are proud beyond belief at those Jews who have left their positive mark on the world in the spirit of עולם תיקון—“tikkun olam”, which means healing and repairing the world.
Like any other people in the world, Jews aren’t perfect. But…why should we be? Nobody is perfect. However, in the case of the Jewish people, there is such a formidable body of positive achievement—from the sciences to the arts, from the business world to the political one, from the medical field to the legal profession—that the irrational, vitriolic hatred directed at us becomes ever more perplexing.
At MeetTheJews.com, we believe much of this comes from a simple lack of understanding. It’s easy to lash out in anger and frustration at antisemitism, genocidal Jew-hatred, and the like. In fact, for a people as ruthlessly persecuted as the Jews, it is only natural. I don’t fault any Jew who reacts angrily or negatively to antisemitism. But here, we want to take a different approach.
We believe that through compassion, engagement, education, and persistence, we can make a difference. I’m not afraid of antisemites who want to kill me for existing—well okay, maybe a little bit, but fear is no reason to avoid facing a problem head on. From behind the safety of my computer screen, I wish to engage with them in dialogue and education.
Of the greatest concern to me, and the rest of the large team behind MeetTheJews.com, is young, impressionable minds, and those who have not been fully submerged into the noxious septic tank of antisemitism, permanently sealed within it and unable to escape. Together, we’re reaching out our hands to try and pull them up, help them clean themselves off, and move forward in living a productive, fulfilling life—liberated from the corrosive acid of Jew-hatred for good. In a way, I believe we have the potential to save lives—at least, I hope we are able to do so.
With that said, welcome to MeetTheJews.com! I sincerely hope you enjoy your visit, and that you will be back soon. I invite you to keep an open mind, engage with our content, and reach out to us if you have questions or need support.
We are here for you.
