Rivlin served as vice chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve from 1996 to 1999.

Previously, she served as director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Clinton administration from 1994 to 1996, and as the founding director of the Congressional Budget Office from 1975 to 1983.
