Spiegelman wrote graphic novel Maus, a portrayal of his father’s experience in the Holocaust, with groups such as Jews, Germans, and Poles represented as mice, cats, pigs, and other animals.

In 1992, Maus became the first and only graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize.
