Raziel was a founder and commander of the Irgun, a militant Zionist underground group in British Mandate Palestine.

Under his command, the Irgun carried out attacks on Arabs, including bombings of marketplaces.

• In 1941, he undertook a mission to kill or kidnap Palestinian Mufti Amin al-Husseini and destroy Iraq's oil refineries. The mission was foiled when a German Luftwaffe plane flying over Iraq strafed the car he was travelling in.
