Teller was a member of the Manhattan Project, the American program that developed the first atomic bomb during World War II.

He later served as an important advisor to Israel on nuclear matters, especially on the building of a hydrogen bomb.

• He also convinced the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) to end their attempts at inspecting Israel's Negev Nuclear Research Center in Dimona.
