Koplan served as the 14th Director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from 1998 to 2002.

• Prior to serving as Director, he worked with the CDC for two decades.

• Some of Koplan's most notable work involved the investigation of HIV-contaminated blood, and the Bhopal disaster.
