Chesler wrote Women and Madness (1976), a prominent feminist book.

She is a professor emerita of psychology and women's study at the College of Staten Island (CUNY).

• When she was 18 years old, she married a man from Afghanistan, moving to Afghanistan to live with him. She eventually separated from him and left Afghanistan.

• Later, she became a staunch critic of Islamist social practices, and has written works on antisemitism, women in Islam, and alleged that leftist intellectuals have abandoned Western values and entered an alliance with Islamists.
