Lemkin is credited with coining the term “genocide” in the late years of World War II.

• He initiated the Genocide Convention, which defined genocide in legal terms under the United Nations General Assembly.

• At the time of his death, Lemkin left two works unfinished: Introduction to the Study of Genocide, and a three-volume History of Genocide, largely focusing on Nazi war crimes during the Holocaust.
