After fighting for the Czechoslovak army in World War 2, Maxwell founded Pergamon Press along with Paul Rosbaud. He also purchased numerous publishing companies, such as the British Printing Corporation, Mirror Group Newspapers, and Macmillan Publishers. His daughter, Ghislaine is a well-known former British Socialite.
