Rosenman served as a presidential speechwriter for FDR, and coined the term "New Deal".

• He helped articulate liberal policies during the peak of the New Deal coalition.

• As the first person to hold the position of White House Counsel, Rosenman submitted his resignation upon Roosevelt’s death.

• However, he was asked by Truman to continue, and did so until 1946. Even after leaving the White House, Rosenman periodically returned to aid the president with major speeches.
